One of Kelly’s attorneys stressed to a judge that his client is already considering whether to change up his legal team while on suicide watch.

R. Kelly had been on suicide watch after being convicted of sex trafficking in New York last month.

The revelation was made by the singer’s lawyer during a court hearing with a federal judge on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber had pushed to have the trial in Chicago moved forward, but since Kelly’s attorneys will be on trial for another case through July, the earliest date they could agree on was August 1, 2022.

One of Kelly’s attorneys, Steven Greenberg, has stressed to a judge that his client is already considering whether to change up his legal team, adding that he’d been on suicide watch for several weeks.

However, it’s believed that has now ended.

“I think he’s talking about bringing in new lawyers in New York,” Greenberg told the judge.

Kelly was said to have been listening to the hearing on a conference call, though he did not speak.

The “I Believe I Can Fly” hitmaker’s sentencing has been scheduled for May 4 as he faces up to life in prison.

To make matters worse, however, he’s also facing four other charges concerning sexual abuse in state court in Chicago — not to mention his prostitution charge with a minor in Minnesota.

In August, a minister who officiated Kelly’s illegal marriage to the late Aaliyah when she was just 14-years-old, spoke in court, sharing the nuptials had taken place in a hotel suite with the then-couple wearing “matching jogging suits.”

“I didn’t think it was anyone special and I didn’t understand it at all,” Nathan Edmond, 73, said, who continued by mentioning that the nuptials took no more than 10 minutes.

Aaliyah died in a tragic plane accident in 2001 at the age of 21. She was returning to the U.S. from the Bahamas where she had shot her final music video, “Rock The Boat.”
